In case the rest of La Famiglia hasn’t heard, there’s a new Chapter of the SCM growing quickly and doing great things in the Memphis area.  It’s full of Black and Gold die-hards and SCM Family members, and one of the ladies that is helping lead the charge is Memphis Chapter Steel City Mafia (MCSCM) Co-founders Cherri Martin.

So fellow SCMers, let me introduce everyone to one of the Mafia’s newest members, SCM #11238 Cherri Martin:

How long have you been a Steeler fan, and what was your earliest Steeler memory?
I have been a Steeler fan for 4 years.  Having some knowledge of football,  the first full football game I watched  was August 13, 2009. The Steelers were playing the Tennessee Titans (my state team). After the win for Pittsburgh and reading up about the team, I was hooked.  From that day on, I have been a Steeler fan for life.
Do you have a favorite current player and/ or all- time favorite?
My favorite current player is Troy Polamalu and all-time favorite is Hines Ward.
Do you have any game day rituals, or do anything special for Steeler games?  How long have you been in the Mafia? – How did you get started with the Mafia?
My game day rituals involve looking at NFL Game day, and then getting ready.  Got to have my terrible and/or mafia towel, my cup for the game watch and then off to Aji’s Sports Bar and Grill to meet up with the Memphis Chapter SteelCity Mafia family to cheer our team on!!  We do a “Steeler Rock” that really gets the excitement going.
Jackie Halmon (now Boss JC) moved to Memphis and brought lots of hype being in SCM and this struck an interest.  After reviewing the website, I joined SCM in October 2012.  With my enthusiasm about the family, Nikol Stitt and Joyce Bonner White were my first 2 recruits.   Also, going to the Steelers / Titans game in Nashville in 2012, I was able to see how SCM really show out.  I was able to go to the tailgate and had too much fun and met some previous players.  I WAS HOOKED!
Since then, Memphis Chapter SCM started in April 2013 with three co-founders:  Boss JC, Cherri Martin, and Nikol Stitt.  We love Steelers and the family concept of SCM.
What does being a member of Steeler Nation and /or mafia mean to you?  With the Steeler’s ‘rocky” start this season, how do you think the rest of the year will play out?  Do you think that there’s a “fix” for their troubles this season?
Being a member of SCM means one word to me, “FAMILY”.  I love the team and definitely the spirit of each and every fan member.
Yes the season start was and still is rocky, ”I GOT  FAITH”  in my team and really believe we can pull through as long as: O line protects Ben; no more injuries;  we win all of the rest of the games this season to make it to the playoffs;  Todd Haley leaves.  I don’t think he is a fit for our team.
If we don’t, I am still a Steeler fan for life!!!
If there’s one team you love seeing the Steelers beat, which one would it be?
Dallas, of course we have a deep rooted rivalry here in Memphis.  I have a few more like Ravens, Bengals, and Patriots.
If there was any current player you could meet, who would it be and what one question would you ask him?
I would love to meet Troy Polamalu in person.  My one question to ask him is, “Why aren’t there more defensive players like you and are you training anyone else to be like you on the team”?
Any personal stories about the Steelers or anything else you would like to add?
Since being a Steelers fan, I have enjoyed being around other Steelers and will talk a lot of noise when anyone wants to challenge my team.  I have been able to meet former player Deshea Townsend in Batesville, MS with his Deshea Townsend’s Pay It Forward Foundation Health Fair, Football and Cheerleading Camp.  Former Wide Receiver- Cedrick  Wilson.  Looking forward to going to more games and meeting more SCM family.

Very proud of the Memphis Chapter SCM group.  We have dedicated members that are very supportive and active.  We not only watch the games but also do things in the community which makes giving back so much fun.   Hopefully we can go as a group to a game in 2014.
