Meet the winners of the 2008 Steelers Fan Club Charity RaffleBy Harvey Aronson
December 11, 2008
This year, Steel City Mafia held a raffle co-sponsored by Andy Russell with proceeds benefiting Russell’s Andy Russell Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament. The drawing was held on October 24 and the grand prize winner received the following:
- A roundtrip flight with three guests to Pittsburgh
- Rooms in the Omni William Penn Hotel for two nights
- Luxury car service to and from Heinz Field and four club level seats for the Pittsburgh/San Diego game on November 16 at Heinz Field
- Seating with ex-Steeler great Andy Russell for the Chargers game
- Guests of Andy Russell for the exclusive Steelers Legends pre-game reception
- Dinner for all guests at Morton’s Steakhouse with Andy Russell
The winner of this great prize was Cliff Koehler who resides in Midvale, Utah. Mr. Koehler is a Steel City Mafia member (#2674). Cliff bought just one ticket and won the grand prize. Mr. Koehler is 41 and married to Dina. He is a self-employed general contractor having been born in Los Angeles. On game day, you’ll find Cliff among other Steelers fans at Club Allure, which is home for the Steel City Mafia in Utah.
After winning the grand prize, Cliff had to decide who the other three lucky people would be that would join him on the excursion east. Cliff included his wife and good friends Boyd and Cory Howells. So just how does a man from the west coast become a fan of a team on the east coast? Said Koehler:
“When I was three or four, they showed the Steelers a lot in Utah. I was fascinated with the Black and Gold and from there it was all about the Pittsburgh Steelers and I have only gotten more fanatical every year.”
As for the experience of getting the opportunity to spend time with Andy Russell, Mr. Koehler reflected:
“The trip to the Burgh was indescribable. Sitting with Andy Russell, having bloody mary’s and beer was the highlight of my life. Then came the game with Andy and after that dinner with him. What a trip! It was very unfortunate that we didn't get to hit the rally and meet the mafia in the Burgh but I have the airlines to thank for that.”
Runner-up to Cliff in second place for the raffle was Pat House, 52 who now resides in Longwood, Florida. Pat was born near Pennsylvania in Steubenville, Ohio and is married to Frank House with two children and two grandchildren. Pat is a retired nurse, and current with her husband owns a fencing company. By taking second place, Pat won an authentic Steelers helmet that is autographed by Andy Russell, Jack Lambert, and Jack Ham.
Pat watches the Steelers at a friend’s bar in Florida called “MT Muggs Sports Pub. It has been turned into an official venue of Steel City Mafia thanks to Pat’s efforts. Having been raised near Pittsburgh, Pat has been a fan of the Black and Gold her entire life. She purchased just two raffle tickets to claim second place.
Ask Pat House who her favorite players are and she’ll tell you she currently claims Hines Ward as a favorite, but all-time choices are Jerome Bettis and Franco Harris. She finishes her Steelers story by telling us:
“We have a Steeler room in our house with a lot of Steelers memorabilia. The walls have mounted autographed photos of several of the 70's Steelers players including Chuck Noll.
Taking third place in the raffle was Shawn Sands of Glendale, Arizona who won an authentic NFL football signed by Steelers legends.
